Types of Mulch
- Inorganic – Stone, lava rock, pulverized rubber, geo-textile fabrics, and other materials
- Organic – Wood chips, pine needles, hardwood and softwood bark, cocoa hulls, leaves, compost mixes, and a variety of other products
- Organic Mulches Preferred – Organic mulches are preferred due to their soil enhancing properties and benefits listed above
How to Mulch
- Apply mulch evenly to a depth of 2-3 inches
- If mulch is already present, check the depth and apply as needed (removal of mulch may be required)
- Avoid piling mulch against stems and trunks
- Extend mulch ring out as far as the plant’s drip line
- Mulch wide-not deep
